TST Swimmers, Parents, Coaches, etc.:
Here we are again starting another season with Titan Swim
Team. At this start, I would like to focus on Goals and
Vision. I truly believe in the importance of setting goals,
taking the steps necessary and working hard to achieve
these goals, and then evaluating our progress and setting
new goals. All of this must be done with a clear vision of our
expectations. Without Vision, there is no direction for our
efforts.
So, let us think about where we ended our season last year.
Are we happy with the results? Only you can answer this
question. Did we work as hard as we could during practice?
Were we focused enough during competitions? Are we
making every effort and taking advantage of every
opportunity to improve each and every day? These are the
questions we must ask ourselves coming into this season.
We can then clearly see where our starting point is for this
season. With that being said, it is time to look and envision
where we want to be at the end of this season. We now have
a starting point and a possible ending point. Now start
setting goals for yourself in between. Each goal must be
realistic and must be measurable. Write these goals down on
a piece of paper and hang them on your mirror. Hang them
somewhere you can see them each and every day so you
never lose focus of what you want to achieve. These can be
goals related to your training and practice habits,
competition performance, nutrition, rest, school work, time
for family and friends, and anything that is an important part
of your life that affects your time in and out of the pool.
Again, write these down and read them every day. As you
achieve a goal, check it off and set a new one for yourself
that is in line with your vision. If you do not achieve your
goal, write down what caused you to come up short and learn
from it. Then write down what changes need to be made to
achieve it next time. I know this may seem like a lot of work,
but believe me; this process is very powerful in keeping you
focused and helping you to achieve success. Also, do not be
afraid to set your goals high. Set the standard high and have
a high level of expectation for yourself. You will be surprised
at what you can achieve when the pressure is on.
I believe that each and every one of you has the potential to
be a “Champion”. Champions come at many levels and are
not always determined by Gold medals, but by constantly
striving to better yourself to some degree and overcoming
obstacles that arise along the way to achieving your goals.
So remember, “Swim Like A Champion Today”, “Act Like A
Champion Today”, and “Be A Champion Today And
Everyday”.
Sincerely,
Steve
